Howth Do I Love Thee? Let me Count the Mushy Peas

We waited for the bus to go to church, spotting several other suspicious sorts in white shirts, long skirts and even some suited lads with name tags. We all piled on #40 which took us to a beautiful church building across from a cemetery.

The ward in Dublin was quite large, with several visitors including us. The song leader was a great Irish tenor and the sacrament prayers were pronounced so beautifully in Irish tones it made me cry. People were very friendly. After the service, an older widow woman took me aside to visit and spoke quite freely about her desire to marry again. She said that she has no problem attracting the men now, not like when she was young and didn't know "what she was about". She confided that she had scared the last one off by revealing something personal but that next time she would "keep it to me self". She was full of so much confidence and cheer, I didn't doubt her, in spite of a pronounced lack of teeth.

We took the train into Howth in the afternoon. It is a beautiful little seaside village full of ice cream, fish and chip and tourist shops.

We took a little boat trip around an island with ruins of a monastery. It is now a bird sanctuary and the back side has dramatic cliffs covered with snowy birds. One of them turned into a torpedo and dove into the ocean along side our boat to dive bomb a fish under the surface.

For the record, this was our first round of fish and chips with mushy peas. They look like guacamole but taste like mushy peas. I ❤️ em.
